UTM Lab Meeting: Analysis of Harmony in Music Signals

In addition to melody and rhythm, harmony is a key feature of western
music. Simultaneously sounding pitches forming chords, and sequences of
chords forming cadences establish the tonal context of a musical piece.
In this talk I provide an overview of my recent work on the analysis of
harmony in music signals. This analysis yields a mid-level
representation, for which exemplary applications are presented.

Jan Weil received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Technische
Universität Berlin in 2004. He is now a PhD candidate with TUB's
Communication Systems Group headed by Prof. Thomas Sikora. His work
focuses on mid-level analysis of harmonic and rhythmic structures in
music signals.
