ColRobot, a robot developed by INESC TEC for the automotive and aerospace industries, carried out its demonstration in the final assessment event of the project on 18 March.

ColRobot - Collaborative Robotics for Assembly and Kitting in Smart Manufacturing is a project that combines state-of-the-art technology developed in Europe with user requirements for application in assembly processes, thus creating an integrated collaboration robotics system, in which a mobile manipulator acts as a “third hand” by delivering kits, tools, parts, or by holding work pieces while the operator performs tasks.

This project, which was developed by researchers from INESC TEC’S Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS), had a budget of EUR 4.3 million and a three-year implementation term.

Pedro Relvas, Luís Rocha and Germano Veiga were the collaborators from CRIIS who participated in the demonstration and in the final review.

Besides INESC TEC, the following European institutions contributed to ColRobot: ENSAM École Nacionale Superieure d’Arts et Metiers, Centre d'Innovation des Technologies sans Contact EuraRFID, AKEO PLUS, RENAULT SAS and Thales Alenia Space (France), University of Coimbra (Portugal), Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy), Fraunhofer-IFF (Germany), AIMEN - Asociación De Investigación Metalúrgica Del Noroeste and Technaid SL (Spain).

This project was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and development programme.
