INESC Porto analyses electrical systems of Madeira and Porto Santo
The Power Systems Unit (USE) of INESC Porto is preparing to develop a set of studies on the dynamic behaviour of the electrical systems of the Madeira and Porto Santo islands.

The aim is to assess the impact on these systems’ operation of a significant increase of wind power and solar photovoltaic generation, forecasted for the short-term in these islands. These studies include an assessment of the need to use energy storage devices to compensate for the variations of the renewable energy resource.
Helena Vasconcelos and Luís Seca from USE are involved in the elaboration of the project.
