INESC Porto develops project CNG – New Generation Network

The Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG) and the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) for INESC Porto have recently had project CNG approved. The project, developed within the scope of The National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), is linked to the New Generation Network.

The project will last for two years and aims to introduce the use of interactive applications as an innovative way of providing appealing educational resources that could be applied to the areas of Education and Professional Training.

It will be a new way to experience these resources. Making the most of 3D, which has been evolving in audio and video, users will be exported to another dimension of spatial perception. The project will cover various subject areas; but will primarily concentrate on mathematics, geometry and music, making a real difference for the next generation of youngsters.

INESC Porto will be leading task 6 which involves testing the usability and accessibility of the resources as well as their educational efficiency. INESC Porto will also participate in specification and acquisition tasks, as well as helping to develop new concepts and the user interface. iZone Interactive Media, iZone Knowledge Systems, Microsoft Portugal, Diferente Jogo, the University of Aveiro, the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP) and the Graphic Computing Centre (CCG) will also be involved in the development of this Project. Augusto Sousa, António Coelho, Alexandre Carvalho, Maximino Bessa and Luís Magalhães from USIG and Teresa Andrade from UTM will make up the team of researchers.
