INESC Porto develops project for the Cape Verde islands

The Power Systems Unit (USE) will begin a project with MARTIFER RENEWABLES to develop and elaborate studies analysing the impact of introducing electricity generation by wind power and solar photovoltaic on various Cape Verde islands.

23rd January 2011

The studies will identify the need to install energy storage systems and new network infrastructures (lines and transformation capacity) to maximise the integration of renewable energy resources.

The project will outline the architecture and functionalities of a SCADA/SEM system in order to define a daily operational strategy that maximises electricity generation by renewable sources without compromising the operational safety of the systems.

The USE team for this project is made up of Luís Seca, Helena Vasconcelos and Carlos Moreira.
