INESC Porto edits “special issue” in Computer Music Journal

Fabien Gouyon, researcher at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), was invited to edit a special issue of the Computer Music Journal of MIT Press, together with Álvaro Barbosa of CITAR - Research Center for Science and Technology in Art, and Xavier Serra of the Music Technology Group of the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

12th November 2010

This invitation is a consequence of the organization of the Sound and Music Computing Conference (SMC 2009), which took place in July 2009 in Porto. Within this invitation, the editors selected five of the best scientific papers submitted to SMC 2009, and the respective authors were invited to publish larger versions of those articles in the journal.

With the choice of articles, the invited editors wanted to provide an overview of the scientific programme of SMC 2009, a conference with a vast number of relevant topics for research and practice in sound and music computing.

It is important to highlight that this special issue also includes an article entitled "Reflections on Music Programming for Conferences: The Case of SMC 2009", by Carlos Guedes, also from UTM, and Pedro Rebelo (from the Sonic Arts Research Center, in Belfast, Northern Ireland), both responsible for the conference’s musical programme.

This special issue, the list of contents, as well as some of the articles, are available here.
