INESC Porto finalist for the “New North Awards”

For the second year running, INESC Porto is among the 30 finalists for the “New North Awards - Prémios Novo Norte”. The winners will be revealed on 30th June at the São Bento da Vitória Monastery.

Besides INESC Porto, the list of the 30 finalists selected from the 127 projects, includes the Serralves Foundation, ESMAE and the National S. João Theatre.

The "Prémios Novo Norte" is the name of the initiative launched by the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N), the "ON.2 - O Novo Norte" and by the Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias. The 2011 awards will be the second edition of this event that focuses on the Northern region. The awards aim to distinguish projects that are both successful and worth merit in various areas, such as entrepreneurship, urban development and sustainability.

The contest offers six different categories: the Northern Innovator, the Northern Entrepreneur, the Northern Creator, Northern Inclusive, Northern Sustainability and Northern Civitas. The prestigious “Prémio Novo Norte” will also be awarded to the overall winner. INESC Porto is among the five finalists nominated for the Northern Innovator category with project CATAI – Programa Estratégico para a Capacitação Avançada Tecnológica e Afirmação Internacional and the Power Systems Unit (USE). INESC Porto is the only institution that is among the finalists for the second consecutive year.

The winners will be chosen by a panel including Armando Pereira, Luís Braga da Cruz, Maria Hermínia Cabral, Mário Rui Silva and Paulo Ferreira.
