INESC Porto organises BASYS 2008 conference

INESC Porto organised the Basys 2008 conference - 8th IFIP International Conference on Information Technology for Balanced Automation Systems last June. This is one of the most important events in the area of emerging information technologies and automation in production and services.

During the conference, several projects were presented, such as the “5 Days Car", developed by the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP), and its main goal is to radically improve car manufacturing, reducing the amount of time between the order and the delivery of the car to just five days, guaranteeing that the car is manufactured according to the particular specifications provided by each client.

During this conference, there were also two seminars that are important for the competitiveness within organisations: Ecolead – European Collaborative Networked Organisations LEADership and Beyond Lean Manufacturing.

Ecolead is a large European project and its aim is to create the concepts, the foundations and the mechanisms that are necessary for the establishment of a networked and collaborative European industrial society.

On the other hand, the Beyond Lean Manufacturing seminar is an initiative developed within the Manufuture European platform, where INESC Porto plays an important role. During the seminar, it was possible to discuss the development of the lean manufacturing environment (no waste environment), as well as the main evolution trends in the manufacturing environments within the industries.
