INESC Porto participates in Innovation Lounge – Communication Congress ‘09
INESC Porto participated in the Innovation Lounge, an initiative that took place simultaneously with the Communication Congress ’09, on 18 and 19 November, at the Congress Centre in Lisbon (CCL). Organized by the Portuguese Communications Development Association (APDC), this event aimed at the discussion of the Next Generation Networks (NGN).
22nd December 2009
The Innovation Lounge constitutes one of the novelties of this 19th edition of the Communication Congress, a new space for the presentation of projects and/or products where innovation and organized networking are at the centre, adapted to the business style practiced by companies in the area of New Technologies. This constitutes a space and meeting point for companies and clients/partners around entrepreneurial spots. The most innovative market solutions were highlighted in the innovation “stages”.
INESC Porto was represented at the event by Mário Jorge leitão, director of INESC Porto, Augustin Olivier, coordinator of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) and adviser to INESC Porto’s Board (DIP), and Carlos Pinho, researcher at INESC Porto’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM). At this event, Carlos Pinho had the opportunity to present an article on the importance of NGNs and their role in the creation of great development opportunities for the Portuguese ICT network and services industry.
According to this article, in Portugal, NGNs are capable of boosting the development of innovative services with an influence on the current paradigms and lifestyles, also causing an economic impact, which can determine a structural change in the economy, more focused on the services and with an ability to perform in international markets. For that, INESC Porto has been promoting cooperation projects with companies and services of the future in the most multidisciplinary areas, such as robotics, energy efficiency or health, promoting networking with the industry and market representatives.
