INESC Porto presents study on Mobility Observatory

INESC Porto participated in the Final International Meeting of the OQR MARE – Regional Framework Operation, “Metropolitan Mobility and Accessibility in the Southern European Regions”, organised by the Commission for the Regional Coordination and Development in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regions (CCDR-LVT). The meeting took place on 19 June at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL).

01st August 2008

This initiative was included in the INTERREG IIIC programme and its aim was to find new solutions for the problems regarding mobility and accessibility in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon, Liguria and Community of Valencia.

The results of several projects associated to this initiative were presented at the meeting, such as the ones related to the domains of flexible mobility, sustainable mobility, mobility plans and e-mobility.

At the same time, the study on the Mobility Observatory for the Metropolitan Region of Lisbon, carried out in the context of the OQR MARE was also presented. The presentation, carried out by António Gaspar, outlined the study’s objective, methodology and conclusions after the visits to the Observatories of Madrid, Geneva and Genoa, and in the sequence of the contacts that were made with the community of transportation and mobility in the region of Lisbon.

It is important to remember that this study is being performed by a multidisciplinary team set up by elements from INESC Porto’s Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC). These elements are responsible for the project management and for the component of information technologies. On the other hand, elements from the Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit (UITT) and an expert on this sector, António Pérez Babo, are responsible for the component of economic sustainability assessment.

The definition of the Observatory Model is currently under development and the team is coordinated by António Gaspar.

The Meeting’s communications will be available at OQR MARE’s website.
