15th December 2010

This prize is awarded to professors lecturing the subject Transport Systems Analysis of the Master’s in Complex Transport Infrastructure Systems. This represents an acknowledgement of the performance of Portuguese professors working within the MIT|Portugal Program.

"I’m very proud of this award because it constitutes a clear encouragement for us to continue improving our performance as professors, in ever demanding and competitive environments. I want to believe that being acknowledged as a good professor in the MIT | Portugal program is also an acknowledgement of my work in FEUP [Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto] and the University of Porto, and that is another reason for me to be proud", Jorge Pinho de Sousa states.

The winner of the "MIT-Portugal Education Innovation Awards" also highlights that the "secret" for an innovative education is to have "learning environments in which participation and creativity are permanently encouraged and where skills are shared in a relaxed and, if possible, fun way". The professor also adds that "teaching in a relaxed way requires an enormous planning effort and a clear and explicit consensus on the objectives to achieve".
