INESC Porto starts European project on Virtual Factories
The European project "Holistic, extensible, scalable and standard Virtual Factory Framework (VFF)" started on 1 September. Inserted in the 7th EU Framework Programme, the VFF project aims at supporting industrial companies, providing tools that make it possible to improve processes related to the design, management, evaluation and reconfiguration of new or existing industrial facilities.
10th October 2009
The final purpose of the project is to improve and promote the future of the European Industry, providing tools that make it possible to simulate the complex and dynamic behaviour of a factory throughout its life cycle (thus defining the next generation of Virtual Factories).
The project includes 28 partners, such as INESC Porto, Volkswagen AutoEuropa or ATEC, and, at an international level, ITIA (project coordinator), Fraunhofer, Siemens PLM Software, CEIT, M&L Group, RWTH-WZL, among others.
The kick-off meeting of the project took place in Milan on 16 September. INESC Porto was represented by Américo Azevedo from the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP), the Unit responsible for INESC Porto’s participation in this process.
