INESC Porto supports planning of Aerosoles

The project SAPIR – System to Support the Integrated Planning of Footwear Manufacturing Networks was recently concluded by the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) and presented on 26 June at the company AEROSOLES, in Esmoriz.

23rd July 2008

The project’s main goals were the integrated management and planning of shoe manufacturing complex networks, involving the development of the product, material supply and manufacturing/subcontracting.

Aerosoles managed to register a 20% reduction of operation planning times, as well as an improved decision-making in view of the increasing information and restrictions on its manufacturing network. The main reasons for these results are related to the decision support functionalities for the operation planning, which include the automatic generation of optimised plans, a better assessment of the different planning scenarios, as well as a friendly and intuitive graphic interface.

Other reason has to do with the quicker information sharing and collection carried out by all the actors included in the shoe manufacturing network. Thus, it is possible to achieve a total synchrony among all the intervening actors. These are some of the results obtained with this system that was designed and developed by UESP.

This project was supported by the PRIME programme through the measure related to demonstration actions managed by the Agência de Inovação.
