INESC TEC begins project in wireless communications
The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) recently began an innovative project in telecommunications in collaboration with IT-Aveiro. Project CPT aims to develop a new architecture for efficient linear power transmission in wireless communication systems. The project began in April and will last two years.

The high speed and limited bandwidth necessary in communication systems nowadays has resulted in the development of modulation methods with complex signals that require a high level of linearity in the transmitters in order to avoid spread spectrum. This normally leads to systems that are not very power efficient. This project aims to address this limitation in modern wireless communication systems.
CPT is an FCT project (the Foundation for Science and Technology) and it hopes to bring together various aspects of efficient transmitters and linear transmitters to produce an innovative architecture that is both efficient and linear. Vítor Grade Tavares, a researcher at UTM, is leading this project at INESC TEC.
