INESC TEC co-organises conference on creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation

INESC TEC organised, together with COTEC, the 2nd edition of the CAL4INO International Conference, which took place on 30 and 31 May, gathering several scholars, practitioners and decision-makers. This conference, organised as part of project CAL4INO, was divided into thematic sessions, academic and business presentations, and roundtables where it was possible to discuss the importance of creative learning activities when promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

16th July 2013

The manager of INESC TEC’s Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit (UITT), João Claro, opened the conference which welcomed as main speakers the economists Till Leopold, the college professor Andy Penaluna, and the director of the Research Centre for Higher Education Policies, Pedro Teixeira.

Till Leopold focused on presenting the Empretec, an entrepreneurship learning programme in developing countries, organised by the United Nations, which follows a “learning by doing” methodology. Pedro Teixeira addressed the increasingly difficult challenges that higher education institutions face in terms of innovation. Andy Penaluna defended the reintroduction of creative learning in education systems as innovation and creativity are closely related.

Other than the main speakers, several other entities and participants exchanged experiences and presented case studies on innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.

The conference was organised as part of the EU project CAL4INO, where the goal is to study the importance of creative industries when promoting innovation. The CAL4INO uses as frame of reference the concept of people working in teams – as opposed to "lone geniuses" – that develop significant innovations, combining design, technology and business, through creative activities that merge different perspectives, experiences and competences.
