INESC TEC co-organises Iberian conference on image analysis

INESC TEC co-organised the 6th IbPRIA 2013: Iberian Conference on Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis, which took place between 5 and 7 June, in the Island of Madeira.

25th June 2013

This is a high quality conference where over 100 researchers of excellence had the opportunity to present their papers on pattern recognition and image analysis. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide a forum for research groups, engineers and practitioners to discuss these areas and present results, thus promoting the introduction of improvements in algorithms and disseminating promising research topics for the future.

A total of 181 papers were submitted to the Conference, of which 105 were accepted and will now be published in the Conference proceedings and in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series. It is important to highlight that the submission of papers by Portuguese authors was the highest ever, with 56 papers submitted, 40 more than in the previous edition of IbPRIA, which took place in 2011 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

INESC TEC’s organising team included Jaime Cardoso, Area Leader at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), who was Local Chair, as well as Lucian Ciobanu, Inês Domingues, Hélder Oliveira and Eduardo Pereira, also from UTM, who were members of the Local Committee.

It is important to stress that INESC TEC already has a vast experience in the areas addressed in this conference, namely in terms of fundamental and applied problems related to computational vision, image processing and decision support systems based on an automatic analysis of visual data. Practical applications include, for instance, image and video processing of medical contents, manuscripts, or even object and people tracking for areas such as surveillance and sports.

This international conference was co-organised by the Asociación Española de Reconocimientos de Formas y Análisis de Imágenes(AERFAI, Spain) and by the Portuguese Association of Pattern Recognition(APRP, Portugal). The event was supported by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto(FEUP, Portugal) and by the  Biomedical Engineering Institute(INEB, Portugal).
