INESC TEC discusses the Dematerialisation of Processes as an economic driving force

INESC TEC, the coordinating entity of INESC Porto, was present in the Brainstorming session “Efficiency and Economic Competitiveness” that took place on 22nd November in Monte Real. The central themes of the event were Health, e-Government and the Economy.

Promoted by CEDT (the Centre of Excellence in Dematerialisation of Transactions), this initiative aimed to identify opportunities for collaboration between participants in the areas of economy, health and e-government in the dematerialisation of processes. These areas have great potential in increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the Portuguese economy in the current financial climate.

Entrepreneurs, executives, researchers and specialists from companies and organisations with competencies in ICT in the dematerialisation of processes came together in this event to present projects in this area. In addition to the brainstorming session on ideas for cooperation projects with national impact, the event aimed to promote networking, technological partnerships and business opportunities between companies and participating organisations and in particular, to generate new innovation projects.

INESC TEC was active in the three areas discussed. Carlos Pinho, a researcher at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) was responsible for discussing health with his presentation “Dematerialisation in health: INESC Porto’s perspective – Projects and Competencies”. Rui Barros, a researcher at the Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG) focused his discussion on e-government with his presentation, “Dematerialisation in e-Gov: INESC Porto’s perspective – Projects and Competencies”. Luís Carneiro, the coordinator of the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) addressed the Economy with his presentation “Dematerialisation in the economy: INESC Porto’s perspective – Projects and competencies”.

António Gaspar, the coordinator of USIG was present as a Member of the Board of Directors at CEDT. José Carlos Caldeira, Director of INESC Porto was also present as the Executive administrator of PRODUTECH and moderated the session on the economy.

This initiative forms part of CEDT’s activities to strengthen and manage a network of competencies in the dematerialisation of transactions and the creation and development of innovative projects in cooperation with CEDT and supported by the COMPETE programme and the partnership with the Competitiveness Poles TICE.PT, the Health Cluster Portugal, InovCluster and PRODUTECH.
