INESC TEC modernises personalised communications

In April INESC TEC began a project with IT-Aveiro that aims to provide personalised communications to groups of users according to their needs, using Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). The project is called Multiple Context-based Wireless Mesh Networks (MC-WMNs) and has a budget of around 120 thousand Euros.

This is an FCT project (the Foundation for Science and Technology) that will use techniques, such as network virtualisation, dynamic resource management, multiple channels and interfaces, directional antennas and power control to provide personalised communications that focus on the needs of the user. These needs can be related to user services and preferences and include Service Quality, price, mobility and privacy and security. This is what makes the project truly innovative.

The project team will develop a distribution solution that is able to consider aspects such as context and typology in order to find virtual nodes and logical networks locally and globally for different clients. The result will make it possible to choose the best solution for each client.
Tânia Calçada, Saravanan Kandasamy and Manuel Ricardo from the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) at INESC TEC will be part of the project team along with Ricardo Matos, Carlos Marques and Susana Sargento from IT-Aveiro.
