INESC TEC participated in the sixth edition of AgroIN, a meeting for the agribusiness sector, organised by IFE Portugal and the magazine Vida Rural, which took place at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa on 10 April. For this 2019 edition, the organisation promoted presentations in the areas of Innovation, Management, Efficiency, Sustainability, Energy and Technology.
In the part of the programme dedicated to the theme of Forest 4.0: Smart Precision Forest, Jorge Leite da Cunha, collaborator of INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) showed how digitalisation can bring competitive advantages for the management and production of forest, with the presentation entitled “O futuro passa por aqui” (in English “The future is here”). This moment was also intended to present some examples of how technological innovation in the forest area is having an impact in the definition of the new paradigm in forest management, fire prevention and biomass treatment, specially highlighting the projects Biotecfor - Biobusiness and Technology for the efficient valorisation of endogenous forest resources in the North of Portugal and Galicia, GOTECFOR - Technology for the mobilisation and use of forestry biomass in agro-industry and Easyflow - Logistical and collaborative operations for greater sustainability in the forest-based supply chains.
The AgroIn conference aims at gathering different leaders and agents of the sector to discuss ideas and strategies, challenges and opportunities, planning, implementation and control. The themes of this year were also related to new agri-food trends, efficiency and sustainability examples, innovation in the animal feed and fertilisers, circular economy and new markets.
The event had around 250 participants and was targeted to agricultural and agro-industrial entrepreneurs, managers of agricultural holdings, agro-industry units, producer organisations and investors.
