“Music Technology with Swing”. This was the theme of the 13th International Symposium on Computer Music Multidisciplinary Research (CMMR), organised by the group of Sound and Music Computing of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) of INESC TEC, in partnership with the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra and AMU-CNRS-PRISM (France).
With the goal of gathering two very different communities, those of researchers and musicians, CMMR 2017 hosted several scientific conferences and debates, as well as concerts and performances. Above all, this initiative aimed to show to participants that music is not just sound, but also movement, which can range from musicians to dancers. Thus, and since music technology enhances the capabilities of sound and movement, this works as complementary element in the search for new artistic and musical creations.
The symposium took place at the Salão Nobre of the Matosinhos Municipal Council between the 25th and 28th of September. This location will be the future CARA - Centro de Alto Rendimento Artístico, whose mission is promoting interaction between arts, science and technology, through multidisciplinary projects that seek to develop solutions for the creation and dissemination of creative content.
