INESC TEC researcher receives merit award
On 28 May, Duarte Viveiros, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP), received a merit award from the University of Madeira following his master’s dissertation titled Sistema sensor em fibra ótica para deteção de gases (optical fibre sensing system to detect gases).

The researcher from Madeira, who concluded his master’s degree with a score of 17 (out of 20), and obtained a score of (19 out of 20) in his dissertation, was involved in the project ECOAL-MGT (Ecological Management of Coal Waste Piles in Combustion), coordinated by INESC TEC. He developed the practical component of his master’s as part of this project.
According to the INESC TEC researcher, “these results are only possible with a lot of family support and commitment. The support of the professors at University of Madeira was also instrumental, as they keep encouraging us to do more and better.”
Duarte Viveiros was one of 35 young students, from different areas, awarded in a ceremony that took place at University of Madeira.
