INESC TEC researchers win award for best scientific paper at RECPAD 2017
Researchers Pedro Ferreira, Jaime S. Cardoso and Ana Rebelo, from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) of INESC TEC, won the award for best scientific paper at the RECPAD 2017 conference, with the article "The Potential of Multimodal Learning for Sign Language Recognition".

The winning article focuses on the exploration of multimodal learning strategies for a more robust recognition of sign language using low-cost sensors such as Microsoft Kinect and LeapMotion.
RECPAD - Portuguese Conference on Pattern Recognition aims to promote the collaboration between the Portuguese scientific community in the areas of pattern recognition and image analysis and processing.
This was the 23rd edition of the conference and was held on 27 October at the Military Academy, Amadora campus.
