INESC TEC sensors monitor environment
On 1st January the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) and the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit (ROBIS) at INESC TEC, coordinated by INESC Porto, began project Senseiver: Low-cost and energy-efficient LTCC sensor/IR-UWB transceiver solutions for a sustainable healthy environment. This is an innovative project to develop sensors that will be used to monitor environmental parameters. The project will run for four years.

This project comes under the framework of the “Marie Curie Actions” Initial Training Networks – ITN and the Seventh Framework Programme from the European Commission. The aim of this consortium is to create an outstanding environment where young researchers can develop their competencies in wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring. The project proposes a set of research activities that include, for example, designing transmitters, wireless receptors and sensor acquisition.
In addition to INESC TEC, the project involves the following academic and research partners: the University of Novi Sad and North Point Ltd (both from Serbia), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), the Technical University of Iasi (Romania), the Institute of Electron Technology (Poland) and TES Electronic Solutions GMBH (Germany); and associate partners, the Ministry of Science and Technological Development (Serbia), the Foundation for promoting advanced research “New Wave Science Mates” (Romania) and the Municipal Waterworks and Sewer Enterprise in Krakow Joint Stock Company (Poland).
