INESC TEC starts project on energy storage

On 20 March, INESC TEC hosted the kick-off meeting of a technical consulting and service provision project in the area of energy storage technology. This project is relevant to the energy sector, not only from a centralised but also from a decentralised point of view. This contract was recently signed with EDP Produção and EDP Distribuição.

Within this project, INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) will be conducting a survey and technically and economically characterising energy storage technologies which are relevant to the power sector, in the current scenario where a large volume of electricity is generated with temporal variability features. The INESC TEC researchers will also be identifying situations in different countries and the impact on regulation and tariffs.

The INESC TEC team involved in the eight-month long project has the following members: João Tomé Saraiva (project manager), João Peças Lopes, Ricardo Bessa, Manuel Matos, Ricardo Ferreira and Ruben Soares.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: INESC Porto and FEUP.
