INESC TEC welcomes Brazilian company TAESA

On 27 June, INESC TEC welcomed a delegation of the Transmissora Aliança de Energia Elétrica S.A (TAESA), one of the largest power transmission companies in Brazil that creates, operates and maintains transmission assets.

The reason for this visit was TAESA’s interest in the projects on transmission technology developed by INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) as the company aims at investing in this area in Brazil. Due to the company's interest in sensors, especially to automate components in transmission systems, the delegation also visited INESC TEC’s Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE). The visit was concluded with a demonstration at INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Microgrids and Electric Vehicles.

This visit resulted in a new proposal for training (under assessment) on HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) and direct current transmission technologies where USE is already experienced due to its participation in the European project TWENTIES.

The relationship between TAESA and INESC TEC is not recent. In fact, several proposals for projects for structural monitoring in transmission towers and optimised logistics (elaborated by UOSE and the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit) have already been elaborated, and their implementation in Brazil is now being studied.

The meeting was organised by the Gabinete Brasil (Office for Brazil Affairs), together with members of USE and UOSE.
