INESC TEC welcomes delegation from PT Inovação

On 9 May, INESC TEC welcomed Fernando Santiago and Ricardo Ferreira, engineers at PT Inovação, following an invitation addressed to the company to get to know INESC Porto’s Laboratory of Microgeneration and Electric Vehicles, and the work conducted at the Institute in the Smart Grids area.

30th May 2013

The visit began with a presentation on INESC TEC to showcase the areas of competence pursued currently at the institution, followed by a brief presentation of the challenges in the Smart Grids area, as well as the context for the Laboratory.

At the laboratory, the visitors had the opportunity to see in loco the electrical and communications architecture implemented, and through demonstrations the laboratory was presented as an asset to develop and test new solutions. Later, the entities discussed different forms of cooperation possible, as well as the future alignment of this collaboration with PT’s M2M (Machine to Machine) network strategy.

It is important to highlight that the Laboratory Microgeneration and Electric Vehicles is the main result of project Smart Grids with Electric Vehicles (REIVE). The main purpose of this project was to create a technology platform to identify, specify, develop and test innovative solutions to actively and intelligently manage electrical grids.

The purpose with REIVE was to attain a progressive technical and commercial integration of microgeneration systems and electric vehicles (EV), without having to reinforce the grids, and simultaneously maximising the integration of renewable sources of energy in the system, guaranteeing high safety levels and energy efficiency.
