06th August 2012

14 UESP researchers participated actively in preparing the presentations which largely reflected the Unit’s activity. The researchers presented work in areas such as Cutting and Packaging, Planning and Optimising Energy Production Systems, Supply Chain Planning, Operational Research in Health, Flexible Transportation, and finally, Operational Research and Ethics.

As part of this conference, Ana Viana and José Fernando Oliveira from UESP were appointed members of the Jury for the EEPA 2012 - Euro Excellence in Practice Award and the EABEP 2012 - EURO Award for the Best EJOR Paper, respectively. Researcher Ana Viana was also chair in the session on Operational Research in the areas of Health and Life Sciences, while António Miguel Gomes and Maria Antónia Carravilla, also researchers at UESP, were chairs in the sessions on Cutting and Packing.

This conference was organised by EURO – the European Federation of Operations Research (OR) where José Fernando Oliveira, a researcher at UESP, is vice president. The organising committee was also supported by the Lithuanian Society of Operational Research and by the University of Vilnius. This is the largest European event in the area of Operational Research.

It is important to highlight that by the end of July (from 16 to 29 July), the city of Porto will be hosting the EURO - Summer Institute on Cutting and Packing, featuring José Fernando Oliveira, Maria Antónia Carravilla and António Miguel Gomes as important members of the organising committee.
