INESC TEC workshop discusses immersive media

Perceptual and audio-visual immersion, multisensory interaction, participatory or 3D and multiview systems were some of the themes discussed during the first international workshop on “Immersive Media Experiences 2013”, co-organised by INESC TEC.

11th December 2013

About 80 people registered in the workshop to discuss different aspects of immersive media and to present prototypes.  Adrian Cheok, a professor of Pervasive Computing at the City University London, participated as an invited speaker, with a presentation on Multisensory Mixed Reality with Smell and Taste.

According to Paula Viana, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit and one of the people in charge of organising the event, believes that the workshop was “a success” that will be perpetuated in a special edition of Springer’s Multimedia Tools and Applications.

At the end of the session, the organisers pledged to continue organising this workshop in the next years.

INESC TEC was both organiser and participant in this event, represented by UTM researchers, consolidating the prominent role that the Associate Laboratory has been conquering in the area of multimedia worldwide. The initiative took place in Barcelona on 22 October.
