LIAAD/INESC TEC in project with Brazilian institution EMBRAPA

Alípio Jorge, Nuno Escudeiro and Bruno Nogueira, researchers at INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD), are collaborating with the Brazilian institution Embrapa Informática Agropecuária and the Institute of Mathematical and Computing Science (ICMC) of the University of São Paulo as part of project Critic@ (Compiling and Recovering Technical and Scientific Information and Promoting Knowledge in the AgroHidro network).

24th September 2013

One of the main goals of the project is to analyse the scientific production of a research network in order to identify technological themes and trends to promote the development of innovative technology for agriculture.

At this level, LIAAD provides know-how in text mining and classification according to topics – techniques that aim at helping experts organise, analyse and discover knowledge in large collections of documents.

The team involved in the Critic@ has been working on tools automatically capable of identifying and classifying textual topics, as well as the geographic and time coverage of the texts and topics. The technologies involve data analysis methods and tools, such as classifiers and techniques to extract information and to disambiguate terms, as well as software adapted to the Portuguese language.

Project Critic@ is funded by Embrapa Informática Agropecuária, a research unit at EMBRAPA (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), which tries to find IT solutions for the agricultural businesses.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: INESC Porto, ISEP and FCUP.
