New project to develop an IoT pilot for production systems

INESC TEC hosted, on 6 and 7 November, the kick-off meeting of project FASTEN - Flexible and Autonomous Manufacturing Systems for Custom-Designed Products, which has a budget of €3,1M and an expected duration of three years.

12th January 2018

The goal of FASTEN is to develop and demonstrate a fully modular IoT pilot meant for the efficient production of customised products. To achieve this goal, flexible robotics, additive production and simulation-optimisation technologies will be integrated into manufacturing and logistics systems focused on low-cost mass customisation.

Headed by INESC TEC, FASTEN also has the participation of INESC P&D Brasil, ThyssenKrupp, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul and Bradel (Brazil), Embraer (Brazil and Portugal), Politecnico Di Milano and Intellimech (Italy) and PACE Aerospace Engineering and Information Technology (Germany).

INESC TEC participates in this project through the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE), with researchers Américo Azevedo, César Toscano, João Basto, Jorge Pinho de Sousa, Samuel Moniz and Rúben Dias, and through the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS), with researchers António Paulo Moreira, Germano Veiga, Luís Rocha and Rafael Arrais.

This project is funded by the European Union under the H2020 research and innovation programme.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FEUP.
