Inês Dutra, researcher from the Center for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), visited the city of Bogotá (Columbia), in February, in order to participate in the first conference of the EELA-2 project (E-science grid facility for Latin America and Europe).

06th April 2009

The researcher also participated in the "face-to-face meeting" giving some presentations in representation of the University of Porto, of the Portuguese Joint Research Unit PTGAC - Portuguese Community for Grid and Advanced Computing, and the EELA-2 Gender Advisory Group.

Several other important speakers have also participated in the conference, such as John Delaney (Univ. Washington, USA), Ian Foster (U. Chicago, USA), Mario Campolargo (European Commission), Fabio Hernandez (CC-IN2P3) and Carlos Casasús (director of the Latin-American CLARA and Mexican CUDI Academic Networks).

The conference also welcomed important Columbian and Mexican decision-makers who had the opportunity to discuss national, regional and international strategic plans and models for the sustainability of the project’s grid infrastructure.

The EELA-2 project has currently more that 3000 computational resources, as well as more than 650 Tbytes disk, federated in 18 countries, with 53 participating institutions and a wide variety of applications.
