Researchers from CRACS visit universities in the USA

A delegation from CRACS - INESC Porto LA (Center for Research in Advanced Computing Systems), set up by Fernando Silva, Vítor Santos Costa, Inês Dutra and Álvaro Figueira, has met with the people in charge of the collaboration programmes between Portuguese and American Universities and its associate researchers, from 3 to 9 March.

The researchers from CRACS visited the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) seeking to establish partnerships with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and with the School of Computer Science.

This visit resulted in a co-supervision of an American PhD student, while, at the same time, negotiations for further partnerships still continue.

The CRACS group also visited the University of Texas, in Austin (UT-Austin), together with the directors of the "Advanced Computing Program" from CoLab@Portugal.

During the visit, it was possible to establish preliminary contacts with professors from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the Department of Computer Sciences and from the School of Information, where there was an outstanding basis of understanding for new upcoming projects.

The group also visited the Texas Advanced Computing Centre (TACC) and the Austin Technology Incubator (ATI). David Gibson from the IC2 Institute welcomed the delegation, as well as reporters from the Público and Expresso newspapers who also participated in this initiative.
