USIC collaborates with Porto Administration Office

Last 27th of July 2006, INESC Porto established a protocol of collaboration with Porto’s Administration Office in the area of civil protection and rescue operations.

As a part of this protocol, USIC will develop a service for an Integrated Management System of Emergencies of Porto (SIGEP), in the area of location based Information Systems that enables online consultation of the levels of Geographical Information relevant to this application domain, with control of accesses before utilization profiles.

SIGEP is in its launching phase and is being operationalized in the Rescue Operations District Centre of Porto. It’s a system that intends to galvanize the operation of the several participants in the area of civil protection and rescue operations, namely the 18 Municipal Services of Civil Protection, the several Fire Departments and other Civil Protection Agents.

INESC Porto’s activity in this project started last September. Mário Ricardo Henriques and Artur Rocha of the Information Systems Unit (USIC) are involved.
