UTM participates in plenary of project ALICANTE

Between 25 and 27 June, INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) participated in the 12th plenary meeting of project ALICANTE, which took place at the facilities of PT Inovação in Aveiro, Portugal.

The aim with the European project ALICANTE - Media Ecosystem Deployment Through Ubiquitous Content-Aware Network Environments, which started in 2009, is to develop a new concept to access multimedia content regardless of the location of the users, including direct transmission of content between users.

At the meeting, the goal was to prepare the final demonstration of the project, and the various participants started integrating modules and components developed throughout the project. The INESC TEC team which attended the meeting included António Pinto Tania Calçada and Filipe Ribeiro, all researcher at UTM. The ALICANTE is funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union.

The meeting also included participants from other partners, namely PT Inovação from Portugal, Laboratoire Bordelais de Recherche en Informatique (CNRS-Labri, project leader), the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) and RESONATE MP4 (RSN) from France, the NCSR Demokritos - National Center for Scientific Research and Technological Educational Institute of Crete, both from Greece, BandWD Ltd and Optibase Technologies Ltd, both from Israel, Thomson Video Networks (ThVN), the National Institute of Telecommunications (NIT ) and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), both from Poland, the Universitaet Klagenfurt (UNI-KLU) from Germany, and finally the Universitatea Politehnica din Bucuresti from Romania.
