UTM researcher participates in meeting with PETROBRAS

Luís Pessoa, a researcher at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), participated in a workshop with the Brazilian oil company PETROBRAS, organised by INESC TEC. The meeting was held at CENPES (a Research Center at PETROBRAS) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 24 and 25 April.

This event took place after the visit of a delegation from PETROBRAS to INESC TEC in January. As part of the visit, representatives from the oil company had the opportunity to identify common points of interest between the Portuguese institute and PETROBRAS, and discuss possible collaborations for the future.

At this Workshop, Luís Pessoa presented two proposals for research in the field of underwater communications. According to the researcher, the aim was to obtain positive feedback from the company, "which eventually happened", the researcher stated. The path for future collaborations is now opened.

The UTM team can now start preparing concrete proposals to be submitted to the National Oil Agency in Brazil, which funds this type of projects. Luís Pessoa will be responsible for elaborating the applications on the part of UTM.

At this meeting, INESC TEC was also represented by Vladimiro Miranda, a director at INESC Porto (which coordinates INESC TEC), Mauro Rosa from the Power Systems Unit (USE) and responsible for the Brazil Affairs, Eduardo Silva, António Paulo Moreira and Aníbal Matos from the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit, and Pedro Jorge and Orlando Frazão, both from Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE).
