INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) made a €300 000 investment in new equipment in order to improve the work developed on their Optical and Electronic Technologies Research Laboratory.

The enhancement and transfer of technology have been one of INESC TEC’s intervention priorities over the last few years. The establishment of the INESC TEC’s Technology Licensing Office (SAL) in 2014 was crucial to the real progress in the protection of the intellectual property created in the institute.

On 7 February, the H2020 SmarterEMC2 project held its final review meeting in Brussels, with the participation of all 11 project partners and the EC Project Officer who positively acknowledged the performed work and its results.

INESC TEC is part of the consortium of the Project “Mobilizador 5G – Components and Services to 5G networks”, led by Altice Labs. Through new technological developments regarding 5G networks, this project intends not only to create new products and services, but also to promote 5G technologies and its introduction in Portugal.

Researchers Pedro Ferreira, Jaime S. Cardoso and Ana Rebelo, from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) of INESC TEC, won the award for best scientific paper at the RECPAD 2017 conference, with the article "The Potential of Multimodal Learning for Sign Language Recognition".

The Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) of INESC TEC is involved in the UGREEN project (Optimisation of the Energy Consumption of LTE-U and Wi-Fi Networks in Coexistence Scenarios), which aims to develop new solutions to reduce the energy consumption of LTE-U (LTE Unlicensed) and Wi-Fi access points, particularly in indoor environments where the two technologies are expected to coexist.

FotoInMotion is the new research and development project of INESC TEC in the area of digital media and creative industries. This project aims to develop tools capable of creating immersive and contextualised multimedia stories from a photograph through the incorporation of virtual reality and 3D elements.

INESC TEC participated in the Porto Water Innovation Week (PWIW), an initiative that transformed the city of Porto into the European capital of water and innovation, which took place between the 24th and the 30th of September at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre.
