Rui Penha, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), is one of the five finalists of the first edition of the Sonae Media Art Award, which awards national artistic creations in the area of media art.

INESC TEC researcher is associate editor of journal on audio, speech, and language processing

Matthew Davies, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), was appointed associate editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing. Matthew Davies is now one of the members of the editorial board that will be coordinating the publication of this journal on audio, speech and language processing over the next three years.

Biomedical engineering is one of the most recent areas of expertise at INESC TEC, particularly after the creation of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER) in the beginning of this year. However, INESC TEC was already working on several bio-related projects.

Thesis developed at INESC TEC receives Best Master Thesis Award

The thesis “Analysis of expressiveness of Portuguese Sign Language Speakers”, by Maria Inês Rodrigues, former collaborator at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), received the 2014 Best Master Thesis Award from the Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition (APRP).

CTM researchers publish paper in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering

The paper "Implantable Flexible Pressure Measurement System Based on Inductive Coupling", by Cristina Oliveira, Nuno Almeida and José Machado da Silva, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), has been published in the November edition of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering.

Gilberto Bernardes and Pydi Ganga, both researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), have come second and third, respectively, in the competition “Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2014”, in the PhD category.

INESC TEC puts Portuguese media on the European map

INESC TEC, together with the TICE.PT – Tecnologias da Informação Comunicação e Electrónica (Centre for Information and Communication Technology and Electronics) and ADDICT – Agência para o Desenvolvimento das Indústrias Criativas (Agency for the Development of Creative Industries), created the platform “NEM Portugal,” which mirrors the European NEM (New European Media).

INESC TEC paper awarded in conference on ultrawide band technology and systems

The paper “An Energy Study on IR-UWB Transmitter Using Integration-and-Fire Modulation” received a best student paper at the IEEE International Conference on Ultra-WideBand (ICUWB 2014). The paper was written by INESC TEC researchers Iman Kianpour, Bilal Hussain, Vítor Grade Tavares, Cândido Duarte (Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia – CTM), Hélio Mendonça (Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems – CROB) and invited researcher José Carlos Príncipe.

INESC TEC develops immersive tools and contents for education and vocational training

The Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) at INESC TEC have recently concluded project CNG (New Generation Contents), whose main result was to develop a prototype for an interactive game that could be used by both teachers and students to help them teach and learn mathematics.

INESC TEC concludes project on optical beam dynamics in nonlinear structures

The Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and the Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) at INESC TEC have recently completed the project “Steering of light in nonlinear waveguides with resonant interactions” (Steering). Essentially theoretical, the project has contributed to the development of devices for optical signal processing and optical communications systems.
