INESC Porto organises second edition of U-NET workshop with IEEE GlobeCom

The Internet Architectures and Networking (IAN) area of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) is currently organising, together with the IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom), the second edition of the international workshop "U-NET: User-provided Networking". The workshop will take place on 6 December 2010, in Miami, United States of America.

Software developed by INESC Porto grant holder wins Future Places Festival

Samuel van Ransbeeck, grant holder at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) has designed a software for the Outhouse installation, awarded with first place at the Future Places Festival, which took place in Porto, between 13 and 17 October. This software was developed in the context of the KINETIC Project, led by INESC Porto (Carlos Guedes and Fabien Gouyon) together with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, the University of Texas at Austin, YDreams and Casa da Música.

INESC Porto participated in the Innovation Lounge, an initiative that took place simultaneously with the Communication Congress ’09, on 18 and 19 November, at the Congress Centre in Lisbon (CCL). Organized by the Portuguese Communications Development Association (APDC), this event aimed at the discussion of the Next Generation Networks (NGN).

INESC Porto with projects approved in the area of Wireless and Mobile Networks

The area "Wireless and Mobile Networks" (WiMobNet) of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) had seven of its projects approved recently, which will result in a 970 thousand Euro funding for INESC Porto.

INESC Porto contributes to the modernization of avionic communication networks

INESC Porto has recently started working on a new European project whose aim is to introduce the most advanced optical fibre communication network technologies in future aviation fleets. The kick-off meeting of the DAPHNE project took place at the AIRBUS head office in Hamburg, Germany, in September this year.

INESC Porto creates music on wheels with the Skate Ensemble

The Telecommunications and Multimedia (UTM) is currently developing the Skate Ensemble, together with the Junior University programme. Promoted by Casa da Música’s Educational Service, this project aims at the creation of sounds and graphic images through the acrobatic movements of skaters, habitués at the Casa da Música outside space.

INESC Porto offers musical summer in Porto

INESC Porto organised the Sonic Interaction Design Summer School and the 6th Sound and Music Computing Conference, which took place at the Casa da Música concert hall, between 18 and 25 July. Presided and organised by Fabien Gouyon, collaborator at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), the organisation committee also included CITAR - Research Center For Science and Technology in Art of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the School of Music and Performing Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), and the Casa da Música.
