Cândido Duarte, PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and Vítor Grade Tavares, professor at FEUP, both researchers at INESC Porto’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit, won, together with Daniel Oliveira (MSc student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at FEUP), the competition “Design Contest - TSMC 90nm LP MS/RF”. The results were announced on 21 October. The winners will have the opportunity to fabricate an integrated circuit for Radio Frequency (worth 7500 Euros) free of charge.

InstitutionalSamuel van Ransbeeck, grant holder at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) has designed a software for the Outhouse installation, awarded with first place at the Future Places Festival, which took place in Porto, between 13 and 17 October. This software was developed in the context of the KINETIC Project, led by INESC Porto (Carlos Guedes and Fabien Gouyon) together with the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, the University of Texas at Austin, YDreams and Casa da Música.

InstitutionalINESC Porto has recently started working on a new European project whose aim is to introduce the most advanced optical fibre communication network technologies in future aviation fleets. The kick-off meeting of the DAPHNE project took place at the AIRBUS head office in Hamburg, Germany, in September this year.

Promoted by Casa da Música’s Educational Service, this project aims at the creation of sounds and graphic images through the acrobatic movements of skaters, habitués at the Casa da Música outside space.

Presided and organised by Fabien Gouyon, collaborator at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), the organisation committee also included CITAR - Research Center For Science and Technology in Art of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the School of Music and Performing Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), and the Casa da Música.
