INESC TEC develops project to improve the airport management

Nowadays, the major worldwide and national airports face a great challenge, consisting in the demand for an economic solution that solves its traffic problems. The new project entitled ASAP - Airport Slot Allocation Processes in which INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) participates, intends to address that challenge.

INESC TEC’S researchers in joint publication in operational research

Alberto Adrego Pinto and João Paulo Almeida, researchers of INESC TEC’s Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Laboratory (LIAAD), and José Fernando Oliveira, researcher for INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI), in partnership with António Ismael Vaz, professor at the University of Minho, edited the book entitled Operational Research, IO 2017 - XVIII Congress of APDIO, Valença, Portugal, June 28-30, 2017, number 223 of the series Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics, published by the prestigious publisher Springer.

INESC TEC's report shows that specialized nursing care is an investment with returns for SNS

The report on specialized nursing care, written by INESC TEC for the Portuguese nurse’s association, concludes that the nursing specialization is a growing need and an international trend, presuming an important financial return for the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS). The conclusions of the document were released in April.

On 9 March and under the “Roadmap of Innovation”, the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, participated in the fourth roadmap, which was dedicated to the footwear industry and which was attended by the Procalçado group and by the CTCP (Portuguese Technological Footwear Centre).

Innovation in Agri-Food Industry presented by INESC TEC

The third conference of the cycle «Portuguese economy and industry 4.0 – A journey to a new industrialisation» was organised by Grupo Editorial Vida Económica in cooperation with INESC TEC. Its main theme was “The Portuguese economy and industry 4.0: Agri-food Industry” and it took place on February 8 on the Porto Accounting and Business School auditorium, ISCAP.

Carolina Jorge, researcher from INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) received, on February 7, an honourable mention for her oral session in the 11th edition of IJUP held at Research Center of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

LTPlabs: The INESC TEC spin-off born in 2015 that is growing 60% a year

It was born in a room on the third floor of the main building of INESC TEC. In the beginning of 2015, LTPlabs was established by three researchers and professors at FEUP: Pedro Amorim, Bernardo Almada-Lobo and Luís Guimarães. Teresa Bianchi de Aguiar, Pedro Campelo, Horácio Neri and João Alves, researchers at the Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) of INESC TEC, later joined the three founders in this adventure. Three years later, the spin-off moved to another building for the second time, now employing 25 LTPeers and growing 60% a year.

On 27 November, INESC TEC received the visit of the Secretary of State of Industry, Ana Teresa Lehmann, and José Sequeira, member of the same Cabinet. The goal of this visit was to present the work developed by INESC TEC and the future challenges for the industry.

Health Parliament project features member of INESC TEC

After three years of existence, the Health Parliament project has now come to Portugal to challenge 60 young people to think about public health policies in the country. The working group, selected from 442 applications, features Mário Amorim Lopes, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI).

INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) is involved in a COST-Action project entitled “Rationing - MISSED CARE: An international and multidimensional problem”, where the goal is to promote discussion about the rationing of nursing care. The project was launched on September 20 in Brussels.

The paper “Understanding attitudes towards public transport and private car: A qualitative study”, written by Gabriela Beirão and José Sarsfield Cabral, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) has received the Transport Policy Prize.
