INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) is currently providing services to IKEA Industry. The goal is to design the layout for the production system and thus optimise the use of machines, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Following this project, IKEA Industry hopes to double their production capacity.

INESC TEC paper highlighted in North-American professional publication

In August 2015, the paper “Knowledge sharing in project-based organizations: Overcoming the informational limbo”, written by Maria Almeida (former researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering, CESE) and António Lucas Soares, also from CESE, was highlighted in the newsletter of the Project Management Institute Houston, one of the most important international institutes in the area of project management.

INESC TEC with differentiating skills in the transportation and mobility sector

The transportation area is typically associated with civil engineering (namely in terms of planning and infrastructures), but over the past few years INESC TEC has managed to gain a relevant position in this area due to the Associate Laboratory’s multidisciplinary nature. Transportations, mobility and logistics are the foundation of TEC4MOBILITY, an initiative that is taking shape to combine and promote skills in this domain at INESC TEC, and to interface with companies.

Retail sales can go up by 21%

The future of the retail industry will involve the use of RFID (radio frequency identification) technology, which makes it possible to optimise the retail cycle management. It was based on this technology that the platform ‘CreativeRetail’ was created, and it not only improves customer satisfaction, but also increases sales between 4 and 21% in stores or store chains. The CreativeRetail was developed by Creativesystems, together with INESC TEC.

Workshop discusses network of suppliers for the aeronautics industry

INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) was one of the organisers and participants of the workshop “Fostering Global Supply Networks for the Aeronautics Industry in Portugal”, which took place on 16 January. In the session, the participants analysed several critical issues for the development of the aeronautics industry, such as the contribution of small technology-based companies to the aeronautics industry and the use of 3D metallic printing in this sector.

INESC TEC helps Kyaia install prototype that manufactures shoes pair by pair

Did you know that you can now order a customised pair of shoes online and have it on your doorstep in 24 hours? Thanks to a partnership between technology-based companies and R&D institutions, including INESC TEC, the technology makes it possible to produce footwear units, and is now installed at Kyaia, in Guimarães. The new solution to produce customised footwear in 24 hours was developed as part of the HighSpeedShoeFactory (Model to Produce Customised Footwear) project, and changes the way the footwear industry operates.
