INESC TEC has recently signed a contract with EDA - Electricidade do Açores (electricity provider in the Azores islands) for the provision of specialised technical consultancy services. As part of this contract, INESC TEC will be conducting different studies to find solutions for building pure reversible hydroelectric power plants on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira.

INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) has recently started an R&D consulting project for the Spanish company Meteobit. The goal with this project is to develop new wind forecasting models and to produce a manual of good practices to address this problem.

Managing energy through computational intelligence, as if it were a brain – is the goal that Portugal wants to achieve and the theme discussed at the ISAP 2015 (International Conference on Intelligent Systems Applications to Power Systems, Conference and Debate), organised by INESC TEC in the city of Porto, which took place between 11 and 17 September. This was the 18th edition of the forum. The last edition took place in Tokyo.

Between 14 and 16 July, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) organised, together with EDP LABELEC and EDP Distribuição, a meeting on European project SENSIBLE – Storage-Enabled Sustainable Energy for Buildings and Communities, in the area of small scale and distributed storage. The project is funded by the European Commission, as part of Horizon 2020 – Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
