João M. Rocha holds a 5-year degree in Biological Engineering, specialization in Chemical and Food Technology, from University of Minho, and a Ph.D in Food Science and Engineering from University of Lisbon. Over several years he exercised/exercises his professional activity as a scientific researcher and university professor in the fields of knowledge of fermentation, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry (inorganic, analytical, food and environmental chemistry), physical chemistry, enzyme kinetic, science and technology of food, pharmaco/toxicology, industrial processes, chromatography e mass spectrometry. He has also been the co-founder, administrator and managing partner of a biotech start-up.
João Miguel Rocha is a Technology Transfer Manager at Technology Licensing Office of INESC TEC – Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science, Porto, Portugal. Integrated into the Licensing Support Service (SAL) team, his activities encompass Science and Technology Management, Knowledge Management and Valorisation, and Promoting Interaction between researchers and companies/industries. Among his tasks, the following stand out: Technology scouting; Defining and implementing intellectual property protection strategies, supporting the drafting of patent applications and other intellectual property rights, and marketing technology to potential buyers; Preparing, negotiating and monitoring licensing contracts; and Defining and implementing open-source software strategies.
