Dean of Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto during about 11 years (October 1990 to May 2001) and President of the Scientific Council of the same Faculty during the same period
Was scientific coordinator of three lines of research, has been the leader of a few dozens of R&D projects and has supervised several post-graduate students, namely 5 PhD thesis and 5 MSc. Dissertations, before full dedication to university management since October 1990.
He has been member for several years of different scientific panels of Financing Programs to evaluate proposals for PhD and MSc grants and also for financing of research projects.
He has been the chair of the committee for evaluation of Informatics for Management Programs of Portuguese Universities and Polithecnics (2001/2002)
He has been National (Portuguese) Delegate to ESPRIT Program of the European Commission during three years. He has been National Representative to the “Expert group on research infrastructures” of the European Union (October 2001 till February 2002).
Presently, after retirement in the 1st of July 2014, is cooperating with the The Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto and with a research Institute called INESC TEC to create a research Laboratory in Advanced Manufacturing, based in a Learning and Innovation Factory, to do research and technology transfer to industry in the area of new products, systems and technologies for industrial production.
