Portuguese institutions reinforce position in Europe in the Sharing Economy area

18th October 2018

As partners of the Enterprise Europe Network, CEC/CCIC - Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Central Region and INESC TEC - Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science met the challenge through two different European consortia, seeing their projects being part of the list of the five projects that were funded under the call at an European level.

EU-GIVE, represented by CEC/CCIC in Portugal, aims to widely disclose and to raise awareness of the potential of the Sharing Economy and the preparation of the entrepreneurs in order to better manage the challenges of the new business models associated to that economy. The EU-GIVE project intends to create opportunities from intangible assets and value chains in the Sharing Economy in Europe, providing the development and test of potential new services for operators that work or intend to work according to the principles of that framework.

TouriSMEshare, in which the Portuguese participation is ensured by INESC TEC, focuses on supporting SMEs, social companies or other entities that explore or intend to explore business models based on Shared Economy, specifically in the Tourism and Intangible Cultural Heritage sectors in four European countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria). This support will have several forms, one of which corresponds to a free provision of diagnostic services, expert advice and search for business partnerships or technological cooperation with the support of the Enterprise Europe Network.

That is why on 9 November, CEC and INESC TEC will promote the Forum Partilhando Visões sobre a Economia de Partilha em Portugal(Sharing Visions on the Sharing Economy in Portugal). The debate will be held at INESC TEC, Campus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, in Rua Dr. Roberto Frias, Porto and it will be a chance to debate the state of the Sharing Economy in Portugal with contributions from some experts.

The Forum will start at 11:00 am, where the importance of sharing economy in the European context will be addressed through the presentation of the EU-GIVE and TouriSMEshare projects.

The session will continue with the topic Os desafios legais associados à Economia de Partilha: que problemas, que oportunidades? (The legal challenges associated to Sharing Economy: what are the issues and the opportunities of it?) in which Joana Carvalho from the Faculty of Law at the NOVA University of Lisbon will address the theme Sharing Economy: contratos e responsabilidade da plataforma(Sharing Economy: agreements and responsibility of the platform.) Mariana Almeida from DECO Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection is also part of this panel and she will speak about the theme: Quem é o consumidor numa economia de partilha?(Who is the consumer in a sharing economy?).

Under the theme Plataformas Digitais e Inovação Tecnológica("Digital Platforms and Technological Innovation), António Coelho, from INESC TEC and Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), will present Experiências Digitais no setor do Turismo(Digital Experiences in the Tourism Sector), an area in which Economy Sharing initiatives have been multiplying.

The seminar will culminate in a broad debate that will be moderated by Susana Marnoto from INESC TEC and ISMAI - Instituto Universitário da Maia.

At 2:30 pm there will be the Sessão Ágora (Agora Session):  Moldar o futuro da Economia de Partilha através da voz dos seus Stakeholders(Shaping the future of Sharing Economy through the voice of its Stakeholders"), an innovative initiative that will reproduce the format of the Electronic Participatory Meeting and will be a moment of collaborative and democratic work, through which it is intended to give voice to the various agents with interest or participation in the Sharing Economy and to summarize in a single and instantaneous report their contributions to the definition of local policies and strategies that promote the sustainable and responsible development of the Sharing Economy in Portugal.
