INESC TEC develops technology to detect driver fatigue

According to the Portuguese Road Safety Authority, car accidents have a very significant impact on our society, with drowsiness being one of the main causes of accidents in Portugal. This was the basis for the development of the project AUTOMOTIVE – AUTOmatic multimodal drowsiness detection for smart VEhicles, which focused on the study and development of methodologies for driver monitoring, with particular emphasis on fatigue and drowsiness detection, using sensors on the steering wheel.

INESC TEC sells technology patent to the international market for the first time

C4MiR – Control Module for Multiple Mixed-signal Resources Management is the name of the Portuguese technology developed by INESC TEC in partnership with the University of Porto (U.Porto), whose patent family has just been sold internationally. C4MiR will have a strong impact on the electronics industry, since it allows testing and calibrating sensors part of wearable devices, thus improving their lifetime while reducing time production and the costs of electronic chips.

Portugal leads European project in science education on Public Health challenges

The PAFSE project – Partnerships for Science Education – comprehends nine institutions from four countries – Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Poland. In Portugal, it is led by the National School of Public Health and supported by the Directorate-General for Education and the Directorate-General for Health. The European Commission (EC) allocated €1.46M to fund the project. This is good news for the country, since it has a positive impact on the Portuguese participation and leadership in the European research support programme.

Researchers resort to light spectrum to assess the ripeness of grapes in the Douro region

Researchers from the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) developed a mobile platform for metabolic monitoring in precision viticulture. The solution integrates advanced sensors using light to measure the organic changes that occur in the plant, in order to ensure the harvest's high quality. This is the first technology of its kind in the world, and is being tested in the Douro region, at Quinta do Seixo and Quinta dos Aciprestes.

The Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI2) mobilised more than €33M to support Inno4vac, an innovative public-private partnership to accelerate vaccine R&D timelines. This initiative will focus on the design and application of innovative and highly advanced predictive models to speed up the development and production of new vaccines. The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) and the NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA represent Portugal in this project.
