Description

sMArt Green Ports as Integrated Efficient multimodal hubs

The MAGPIE project is dedicated to innovating ports across Europe through technical, operational, and digital advancements. Its primary focus is on creating a decarbonized and smart port environment, utilizing a living lab approach. The project's central objective is to enhance green and integrated multimodal transport solutions, with an overarching aim to establish a comprehensive Masterplan. This blueprint will serve as a guide for implementing sustainable practices in European ports. Central to the project are various demonstrations aimed at the effective utilization and supply of green energy carriers, including hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, and renewable electricity, for transportation within and around ports. These demonstrations are not just about showcasing potential energy solutions but are also geared towards improving their accessibility to end-users. In addition to energy-focused initiatives, the MAGPIE project places a strong emphasis on the development and demonstration of smart and digital tools, and automated solutions. These demonstrations and innovative tools are expected to yield valuable insights that will contribute significantly to one of the project's key outcomes: the Masterplan for European Green Ports. This Masterplan will act as both a strategic roadmap and a practical handbook, designed to fast-track the evolution of sustainable maritime and inland port infrastructures across Europe.
