Patient Information Combined for the Assessment of specific surgical outcomes in breast cancer
The PICTURE project aimed to provide objective tools to predict the aesthetic outcome of breast conserving surgery. Using a combination of 3D photography, together with routinely acquired radiological images, the team involved in the project developed techniques to biomechanically model the anatomy of the breast and the surgical result. These predictive tools will make it possible to explore alternative strategies and visualise the appearance of the breast from each surgical option. This will make it easier for the surgeon to explain different types of surgery to the patient, who will play an active role in a shared decision-making process.
