Picture Archiving and Communication System with Semantic Search Engine

Besides simplifying the access to patient data and related services, the arrival of computers and data networks to the medical environment has strongly improved the quality and decision-making in healthcare. With the exponential increase of medical data in digital archives, it is becoming more and more difficult to automate certain analysis or search related tasks. The goal of this project was to develop a software module to integrate with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) that supports automatic, semantic based description and search methods directly over medical images. Contrarily to existing systems, this solution generates on-the-fly diagnosis reports based on the similarity of medical images stored in the archive.
