System to increase the use of Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Robotics

INESC TEC was part of a consortium which has developed a robotised painting system – the SMARTPAINT – that is able to "see" and imitate the movements of factory workers. Without the direct interference of a programmer, each robotic manipulator can be programmed directly by a specialised worker, who prepares the equipment for several series of movements that will treat a wide range of parts. This system makes it possible to increase productivity, gaining competitive advantages and avoiding repetitive tasks and continued contact with environments which are harmful to the health of the workers.
