COMPUTER STANDARDS & INTERFACES

Abstract
DYNAD, a Standards, Measurements and Testing project supported by the European Commission within the Framework IV activities, is a research project aiming at the investigation of test procedures for evaluating the dynamic performances of A/D converters and S/H circuits. The paper concisely reports about the activities carried out in the first months of the project, activities which aim at improving the existing norms for what concerns the "classical" dynamic test methods for A/D converters, based on the use of sinusoidal stimuli. Web links are provided so that any interested party may contribute his/her opinion on the developed draft. Then, the research activities planned for the following years are briefly illustrated.

Proceedings - IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems

Abstract
This paper presents a low power MOS-VLSI implementation of an oscillator proposed by Freeman to model a very important component of the olfactory cortex. The model dynamics has time constants in the order of 1/220 (s). To accomplish the long time constants a new filtering technique recently proposed was utilized. All the blocks involving information processing were designed to operate below threshold (weak inversion).

PHYSICAL REVIEW E

Abstract
We show that the evolution equations describing the two-wave mixing interaction between two codirectional optical beams in photorefractive media can allow spatial shock-wave solutions. Our analysis indicates that these kink-type wavefronts move together at an angle that falls outside the initial +/- theta sector of propagation. The apparent direction of propagation and the spatial widths of these optical shock-wave beams are directly related to their relative intensity.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCED A/D AND D/A CONVERSION TECHNIQUES AND THEIR APPLICATIONS

Abstract
An account is given on the joint time-frequency analysis (JTFA) and the short time-frequency transform algorithm in particular as an alternative technique for dynamic testing of analog to digital converters (ADCs). It is shown that this technique can lead to a significant improvement in ADC testing mainly due the possibility of using non-stationary signals allowing a more rapid test capable of analyzing even localized features.
